Export guide

Export a Garmin Connect activity as GPX

Garmin gives you clean GPX per activity from the web version of Connect. Its whole-account download is a different thing entirely, and not one we can read — so this guide takes the route that works.

Sign in to Garmin Connect on the web

The phone app's share sheet does not reliably offer GPX, and it has moved around between releases. The website does, so use connect.garmin.com and sign in at the top right.

    Open Activities, then All Activities

Expand the navigation bar on the left if it is collapsed, then work down to the full activity list.

    ActivitiesAll Activities

This may have moved. Connect's navigation is behind the sign-in, so these are the labels Garmin's help pages use rather than a screen we photographed. If the sidebar reads differently, look for whatever opens the full list of your activities.

Open the activity itself — click its name

This is the step people miss. Selecting the row in the list is not enough; you need the activity's own page, which you reach by clicking its title. The export control only exists there.

    Activity name

This may have moved. Also behind the sign-in, so treat the layout as a description rather than a photograph. The test is the gear icon: if there is none on the page you are looking at, you are still on the list rather than the activity.

  4. 04

Use the gear icon and choose GPX

The gear sits at the top right of the activity page, below the device-sync and profile icons. The file downloads immediately.

    ⚙Export to GPX

This may have moved. Garmin has moved this control between releases and it is behind a login we do not use, so treat the icon's exact position as a hint rather than gospel. The label has been stable.

    Upload the GPX files

Repeat for each activity you want on the poster, then drop them all into Maps of You at once. There is no limit on how many you bring in one go.

What we do with the file

So you know what survives the trip from their servers to your wall.

  • Garmin writes the lon attribute before lat on each track point. That is legal GPX and we read attributes by name, so it makes no difference.
  • Elevation and timestamps survive the round trip; sensor extensions are dropped.
  • Each track segment becomes a separate journey, so auto-pause on a ride gives you clean pieces rather than one line through a car park.
Troubleshooting

When it goes wrong

Where this trips people up, and what to do about each.

Got the file? That is the hard part done.

Drop it in and we draw the ground you covered — the forest, the crop, the rock, the relief of the hills — with your line on top. Nothing you upload is public, and you can delete any of it at any time.
